I've been looking forward to this Memorial Day/3 day weekend for several weeks now. I had big plans to get A LOT of things accomplished this looong weekend. Do you think I've done anything? HAHA Not a darn thing!
Friday..had to work until 5pm, which really stinks since I'm used to getting off at noon on Fridays. But sinuses and allergies got the best of me earlier in the week and I called off two days. *note to self..get my 36 hours in by the end of Thursday, and I won't have to work all day on Friday* simple enough.
Saturday..went for a half mile bike ride, it was nice..but again allergies aren't letting up much. returned home and I kept hearing chirp chirp and flappy sounds. There was a bird in my house behind the washer and dryer. I don't like birds, nor does my husband. We literally ran to our bedroom and locked ourselves in. Cell phone in hand..I called "Wild Ohio"..(no, I don't have them programmed in my cell phone..but I do have the Franklin county sheriff programmed) thinking someone would come and rescue us..yea right! "corner it in a room with an opened window or door and it will learn that it needs to fly out OR throw an empty pillow case over it and set it free outside" is what the lady tells me.
Screw the pillow case! I got the broom. When we came from the bedroom it is under the kitchen table..our daschund mix Shelby loves to chase birds..but she wasn't having any part of a bird this day. I kept telling her "get it Shelby".
I scare the bird with the broom, it starts flying all around and then started chasing my husband from the kitchen and through the living room.. so he ran out the front door and the bird stopped short of going out..instead it went behind the couch, which is right beside the front door.. Trusty broom in hand, I get it from there and it goes behind the entertainment center, again the entertainment center is right beside the flippin front door.
We get the bright idea to get doggie treats and throw them to the opening between the stand and the wall.. Shelby..runs and gets the treats and runs back to us..not a good idea. After several times of trying to shooo the bird out..and both of us running from our house screaming..one neighbor stopped in his tracks watching us..we finally got it to go out. How it got in we don't know.. Mission accomplished.
Later in the evening we went for a one mile bike ride..I enjoy riding bikes with my husband. :)
Sunday... Did some of this and that around the house.. then.. I hear it again..chirp flappy..UGH Another bird is in my house behind the washer/dryer! How is this happening? No calling Wild Ohio.. Trusty broom in hand once again. I got it to come from behind the machines.. and both front and back doors opened up... the bird scurries through the house and out the front door. I think this bird was a tad bit smarter than the bird the day before.
We figured out how the birds got into the house. Outside on the overhang of the house is some sort of pipe that goes up into the house..and the circle that the pipes go into has open space..a vent on the soffit has straw or grass hanging from the slits in the vent.. I unscrewed the vent cover outside and a lot of grassy/straw stuff fell to the ground. Bingo..birds have made a nest and are somehow getting through and into the house beside the washer where the water pipes are. I'm just glad no eggs or alive birds fell out, I had my broom with me) So off to Lowes and we bought some sort of spray insulation stuff..? We filled the space remaining around the pipes..cross our fingers they don't come back.
Then we went to my sisters house in Wash C.H. for a cookout..well cookout but eat in because of the rain. Saw the new house and spent some time with my nephew who is 5 and my niece who is 7 months. I learned how to make play~dough spaghetti..LOL
Back at home there are no birds in my house, and I hope it stays that way.
Merry Christmas a year later!
